PRESIDENT APPOINTS NEW FOREIGN POLICY ADVISOR |

L.Purevsuren is the President’s new his advisor on foreign policy, in succession to Ts.Sukhbaatar who has been named Ambassador to China. Purevsuren graduated from Moscow's State Institute of International Relations in 1989, majoring in Western European affairs. He worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a translator in the Embassy of Germany to Mongolia, and also as First Secretary at the Mongolian Embassy in Germany. Since 2000, he has been First Secretary and Counselor in the European Department of the Ministry. Purevsuren speaks English, German and Russian. Source: www.news.mn

Thursday’s meeting was the first since the election 16 months ago that the present Parliament met with all its 76 members. Before D.Zorigt took his oath GEC head N.Luvsanjav submitted his report on the by-election at the 24th constituency, and then told D.Ochirbat that no party or candidate had lodged any complaints to the GEC about the conduct of the election. Z.Altai congratulated D.Zorigt on his election but regretted that the success of “this well-educated, capable young man from a good family” had been tainted by the actions of his party during the elections, when it distributed large sums of money to voters.

Some sources constantly report that PM S.Bayar, Leader of MPRP, would end his political career in next months. He received the post from his previous leader M.Enkhbold, currently Deputy Prime Minister. He established Coalition Government regardless hiss party victory at the State Great Khural election.

S.GANBAATAR GOES ON STRIKE DEMANDING RETURN OF SOCIAL INSURANCE MONEY |

The Head of the Mongolian Labor Union, S.Ganbaatar, has started a strike inSukhbaatar Square demanding return of the money in the social insurance fund that has been transferred to the State budget. He is sitting surrounded by boards reading “Government, repay your debt”, but like most borrowers in life, the Government pays little heed. The issue, however, is of serious concern to many ordinary people’s future.

ZORIGT WINS BY-ELECTION WITH 60% OF VOTES |

|
Unofficial reports on Monday afternoon gave the MPRP candidate, D.Zorigt, victory in the by-election in Chingeltei district with 60 percent of the votes, winning in 19 of the 23 sub branches. The DP candidate R.Burmaa came second.
