The first ever business forum called "Silk Road" was held October 16-19, 2008 in Trabzon city, Turkey. The event brought together representatives of 23 Asian and European countries.

From the Mongolian side, there were O.Ochirjav, Ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Turkey; G.Dugarjav, a Deputy Head of the Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency of Mongolia (FIFTA), and T.Baasansuren, a Director-General of MONTSAME news agency. The gathering discussed matters such as running rail- and highway and gas and oil pipes connecting Asia and Europe along the Silk Road through Trabzon city, and creating business and tourism networks between the countries of the Silk Road. They also agreed to organize such a forum every year.
In addition, an international conference and exhibition on the Asia-Europe transportation were organized October 14-17 in Mersin city, Turkey. Using its geographical position, this country aims to become a logistics center between Asia and Europe, and is planning making Trabzon city the logistic center at Black Sea and Mersin city--at Mediterranean.
