News about job cuts has been coming constantly amid the economic crisis taking effect on Mongolian economy. Workers are addressing the labor unions. UB Railway will be cutting thousands, and there are 200 workers without jobs in Khutul Cement Factory. The Labor unions are organizing a campaign to keep the work places.
Government signed a pact to cooperate with Employers and labor unions.
“As the consumer spending is decreased companies are unable to give the
salaries. Thus, the company administration should have a policy to keep
the work employees, but make a good time management instead of firing
them. We are proposing to make the workers work half time or get less
salary. Even though it is not permitted by the labor laws, we need to
cut as less jobs as possible” says Ts. Otgontungalag head of the Policy
planning department of Mongolian Labor Union.
There are 35 member organizations and more than 2000 unions that cooperate with the Labor Union.
