Doubling Tax On Used Cars Being Considered Print E-mail
Parliament is mulling a proposal over to double the tax on imported second-hand cars. The move is seen as aimed at reducing the burden on the nation's roads.

The tax paid on imported used cars is presently $1,000 and up, depending on the age of the car and the size of its motor. The proposed increase would see drivers paying $2,000 for a small, used foreign car.
During the first half of 2008, Mongolia imported over 14,000 Japanese such cars. Other countries Mongolia receives used cars from include Russia, Chile, the United Arabian Emirates, and New Zealand.
