Parliament approved on Friday the final accounts of the State Budget in 2007. Total revenue was MNT 1,880.5 billion, 9.8 percent or MNT 167.9 billion more than the target. The budget showed an overall surplus, with expenses totaling MNT 1,747.4 billion, MNT 72.9 billion less than planned.
MPs noted that Government spending had been increasing year after year,
and so was the number of government employees. There was no
corresponding fall in general unemployment and poverty figures.
Members of the Sub-Committee on Budget Expense Monitoring have urged more care to ensure that the budget did not become too dependent on revenue from the mining sector.
