khan_bank.jpeg        A working group led by D. Batsaikhan, Deputy CEO of Khan Bank visited Bayankhongor and Uvurkhangai aimags recently. The purpose of the trip was to bring relief to the herders who suffered loss of life, livestock and property when a strong blizzard and sand storm swarmed through central and Gobi region aimags on 21-23 April 2009.
In addition, the group also intended to implement the “Livestock re-stocking” program to those herders.
The above-mentioned natural disaster caused most damage in Bayankhongor, Uvurkhangai, Umnugovi and Dundgovi aimags. Committed to social welfare, Khan Bank provided assistance to 40 herder families in 4 aimags through its foundation and included herder families who had lost more than 90% of their herd in the “livestock re-stocking” program. For example: MNT 300,000 each was given to families of those who lost their lives in the storm, MNT 150,000 was handed to each family who lost more than 50% of their herd while those families who lost more than 90% of their herds received 34 of animals each. Khan Bank working group visited Bayangol, Sant, Bayan-Undur soums of Uvurkhangai aimag and Bumbugur soum of Bayankhongor aimag--the places that incurred significant loss during the storm- to bring the assistance. Khan Bank Foundation spent MNT 13 million on this “livestock re-stocking program”.
Khan Bank Foundation provided over 170 million MNT support to more than 700 families from eastern aimags who suffered enormous losses during the natural disaster of May 2008. Furthermore, Khan Bank established “Risk Reserve” for western aimags, which faced a harsh winter in 2008 and MNT 1 million each was granted to 13 soums.
While working in Uvurkhangai and Bayankhongor aimags, Khan Bank Foundation handed certificates for 8 students (4 in Uvurkhangai and 4 in Bayankhongor) who are the recipients of Khan Bank Scholarship program for the academic year of 2009-2010. Ninety students from 21 aimags and Ulaanbaatar who are graduating from secondary school this spring were selected for the Khan Bank Scholarship in 2009-2010 academic year.
