green_planet.jpeg      UNDP Mongolia in partnership with the Press Institute of Mongolia launched the "Green Planet" Environmental Journalists Club on 25 June 2009. Over 30 enthusiastic and committed journalists from print, broadcast and online media have united together in raising environmental awareness.
Opening the launch, Shoko Noda, a Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Mongolia, underlined, "In today`s news-cluttered world with diversity in the news agenda, it is becoming increasingly difficult for environmental issues to compete with other prominent issues directly affecting the public.

However, environmental protection is the key precondition for sustainable development of Mongolia. Lives of so many Mongolians depend on precious natural resources. A vast green steppe, continuous blue sky, sunshine, and harmony of people with nature are the natural heritage of Mongolia. It is essential to protect this heritage for the next generation of Mongolians. For that, UNDP stands for to support the Government of Mongolia and its people".
Underlining the important role of media in shaping public actions and attitudes, Mr Gansukh, the Minister for Nature, Environment and Trade also stressed the commitment to promoting environmental journalism in Mongolia. The club was launched within the framework of a one month environmental campaign, which triggered many activities and events nationwide aimed at raising environmental awareness with a focus on the message "Your planet needs you! Unite to combat climate change".
