The President of Mongolia N.Enkhbayar has given a speech themed "Ensuring sustainable development" at the 7th high level forum of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held October 23-25, 2008, in Beijing, China. It was Mongolia's first ever participation in the high level forum since entering the ASEM in 2006.

The ASEM's forum was attended by State Heads and Prime Ministers of 43 countries in total such as 27 European Union's countries that are the ASEM's member states, 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the ASEAN Secretariat, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan and Mongolia.
At the 7th high level forum was held in scope of key themes "World economy and financial situation", "Global problems" /financial crisis, food safety and improving the skill against climate and natural disasters/, "Ensuring sustainable development" /Millennium Development Goals, energy security, climate change and developing social solidarity/, and "Negotiations between civilizations".
At the end of the forum, the member states issued two key documents such as “Statement of the presiding state for the 7th high level forum of the ASEM” and “Beijing Statement on sustainable development”.
