Meat and meat product manufacturing has always held an important place in the food sector and is considered to have the most potential sector for future development in Mongolia. Currently, there are over 60 small and medium enterprises that produce meat products.

Established in 1946 as the Civilized Meat Industrial Complex, the company was the first industrial complex aiming specifically to provide city people with meat and meat products. In 1992 the industrial complex was reorganized into as the Makh Impex Shareholding Company , and was acquired by Genco Company in 1997, which owns 71% of shares.

The Makh Impex Company owns the principle meat processing factory which supplies meat to the city markets. The company’s industrial systems and technology were restored and modernized with technical and economic assistance from Germany 3 times. Moreover, the technology is fully managed by computer and produces meat that meets European standards.

Makh Impex has over 1400 employees and branch facilities in 10 aimags, through which they buy and process stock and raw materials. The Company has separate divisions, including facilities for meat processing, sausage making and meat canning, casing processing, meat sorting and packaging, freezing in addition to another 10 divisions. Makh Impex JSC has the capacity to produce 120.0 tons of carcass meat per day, slaughtering 400 large animals such as camel, horse, and cattle livestock and 4000 small animals such as goats and sheep livestock in one shift.

The Makh Impex Company is the largest Mongolian meat processing factory and supplies the Ulaanbaatar city market as well as exporting products to Russia, China, Jordan, Japan, Germany, and Holland.

The company has been selling public shares since October 27, 1997 with the initial price of 100 MNT per1 unit of stock open to the public.
